What else are you shedding these days in addition to excess pounds?
One of my favorite aspects of the process of weight loss is purging old habits and unsavory lifestyle aspects, as well. As we forge ahead with changing our life trajectories and making major life changes, there isn’t anything more gratifying than the list of unsavories we are leaving behind us.
Some people describe it as a piece of art you choose to take down from your walls of today and tuck away safely in the basement of your memories from yesterday. Eventually, as years past and the dust settles, those pieces of art become but a memory . . . a piece of art from long ago that you have put enough distance between the now and the then that they become nearly figments of your imagination, only detectable in your rearview mirror.
No matter where you are in your spectrum of chasing goals, grab your journal and list what you’ve left behind. So often, it is recommended you journal about your dreams and desires. But what about the things you never want to allow into your life again? The food items, the unsavory operational systems, the dysfunctional humans, the pain and agony of trying to connect all of life’s dots with all of the characters we feel compelled to include. Scratch it all. Let your mind wander to the scenarios you would love most, having been given your freedom to love and live anyone and anything you so choose. List at least five areas in your life that you will never experience again.
Write about what you will most enjoy seeing in your rearview mirror as you continue moving forward toward your ultimate goals and happiness. Don’t hold back. Knowing what you desire, along with what you don’t want alongside your life journey, are valuable assets you shouldn’t second guess or question. Trust in yourself. Believe in that inner guiding voice. You are a rock star in your own right. Own it. Free yourself from any concerns or anything at all that doesn’t feel just right. You know there are plenty of options in the big, grand world to expose all of the amazing attributes of those living extraordinary lives. Own it. Own your life and your path and everything you so choose to do with your free time. Don’t gaze long into the rearview mirror. Shine your amazing self on.
Make the world a cooler place because of you.
