This is the season of bustle. This is the season of wrapping up after holidays, of tying in loose ends, of beginning a brand new year.
There are parties, programs, house guests and gifts to devote time to, and incorporate into life.
For some, this is the season of deep joy, connection and peace. For others, it is a season to reflect, reminisce, remember. For some, it is a season of regret, longing and sadness.
Shake it all up and sprinkle it all around and you get one big pot of flavorful social soup. As we go about our days we honestly have no idea of what is right next to us unless we reach out and ask.
This isn’t about food or weight loss or nutrition. This moment is about humanity.
Look around and open up to the possibility of what is happening now. When you get present to what is occurring for you, and around you, the mix and mingle of all that rolls under your holiday surface, it creates a compassion for those around us.
Smile. Ask a heartfelt question of a friend or stranger and actually wait for the answer. Then, let that answer melt over you. Take a deep breath and give them the gift of your presence and authenticity. Don’t solve a problem or preach. Just be there with them and offer any connection that feels needed.
In this, the season of giving, give yourself.
Give your time. Give you. Give now.
We don’t know what others are wrestling with. We don’t know what they are celebrating or why they may not celebrate. We can only be a big open hug to them and give the best possible gift, love, all year round.
