As the air chills and the wind crisps, the talk of pumpkin flavored everything begins.
Here’s the deal, autumn is about so much more than lattes and loaf cakes. We say, break free of the confines of that pumpkin prison and live autumn instead of eating it.
Here are five fun fall things to do to get your family’s buns out, about and living big adventurous lives:
1. Go to a local you-pick farm and pick apples!
We love apple picking season. It’s not too chilly and not yet the end of the sun as we know it. Then, take your haul home and enjoy the crisp taste of all that soaked up summer. There is sunshine trapped in that fruit, and now you get to infuse it into your soul.
2. Head to a park for an afternoon or evening walk.
It’s no longer so hot you’ll melt, and the crisp autumn breeze will get you into the spirit of layering and scarves. Both things are far more autumn awesome than any adulterated pumpkin confection.
3. Roll down your window a bit while driving.
The sun may still warm your car but the nip in the air will for sure give you a bit of pep as you wave bye-bye to summer, and watch it fade in the rear view.
4. Go to a football game.
High school, college, it doesn’t matter, it’s the great American treat of fall. Wear a hoodie, pack a blanket and bring a friend. Watching a live in-person sport outdoors, honestly, there’s nothing quite like it. Enjoy the energy of the stands, the sweetness of the moment and skip that whip cream laden latte.
5. Go for a weekend drive to watch the foliage change.
The musical vibrancy and life, ever morphing and moving, for sure a grand spectacle to behold. If you’re near a park, get out and walk. Take a deep earthy breath and feel the life around you draw its last hot summer breaths in preparation for the deep slumber of winter.
You can do it. Look that pumpkin crumb cake in the crumb and say “no thank you.” Get to living big and adventurously instead.
